Covid-19  response

(updated 18/04/2022)
Best endeavours were taken to ensure that the information contained in this page was current at the time published however GVA does not guarantee the accuracy of the information outlined below, readers should not rely on this information for any reason and all readers should check current government website for accurate and up-to-date information.
NOTE: As of Thursday 14th April the requirement for all members and visitors to check in and be fully vaccinated ended.
See details HERE.

How are we responding to COVID-19?
Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of our members.
We believe that sport is important for
physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing. We are also conscious that there is widespread sickness in the Queensland community and we have legal and moral obligations to manage our activities as best we can to meet the needs of our members and the Gladstone community.

We appreciate your help in meeting the requirements under which we are allowed to operate and the measures we are all taking to try and minimise the impact of any health hazards.

What do we REQUIRE our members and visitors to do?
In order to meet our obligations GVA are requiring all members and visitors to take the following steps:
  1. Stay home - if you are feeling unwell or have any COVID-like symptoms

What do we ENCOURAGE our members and visitors to do?
GVA encourages our members and visitors to take the following steps:
  • Wash hands regularly and practice good hygiene
  • Maintain a minimum of 1.5m distance at all times when not actively playing
  • Wear a mask if you cannot physically distance
  • Enter and exit via different doors, where possible
  • Enter and exit the hall promptly before and after your sessions
  • Follow directions given by Committee members and be respectful

Lets work together to look after ALL our members!

What else are we doing?
As we try to navigate the 'new normal' we will endeavour to be flexible and proactive in meeting member needs. Committee members are regularly reviewing health directives and monitoring requirements for our club. We will try to keep you informed of any changes as soon as possible.

As we encourage members to stay home if they are unwell, if you find that your team cannot play due to illness please let the committee know.
We do not want to penalise members for 'doing the right thing' so notify the committee as soon as you know that you are unable to field a team and we will ensure that normal forfeit rules are not applied and points will likely be shared for the match.

Committee members and others will be sanitising and cleaning commonly used equipment regularly. Feel free to give us a hand, we will appreciate it!

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I have to be 'fully vaccinated' to enter the hall?
A: No. As of 14th April the requirement for all members and visitors to be 'fully vaccinated' to enter the hall was lifted. If you are feeling unwell please stay home and follow QLD health guidelines and directions.

Q: What does 'fully vaccinated' mean?
A: "A person who has had the required two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine. It does not include a booster shot or a two-week wait after the second dose."
(quotation source: Qld Health Website available here)

Q: What if I'm under 16 years of age?
A: You are not required to provide proof of vaccination

Q: Why do restrictions for unvaccinated people apply to GVA activities?
A: We are a "non-essential leisure activity" and we enter the hall as a private hire, therefore if unvaccinated people attend we are not allowed to have more than 20 people in the hall, which means that we cannot play volleyball (ie we could not play on both courts or have duty teams).
