2021 Season 2 news: The social A-Mixed and B-Mixed competitions have changed in Season 2 - to meet the changing needs of the GVA members and to meet the club vision and mission.
Social competition: Gladstone Volleyball Association (GVA) runs a local competition catering to beginners and experienced social players. Seasons run between February and November with breaks for public holidays and school holidays. Our competition runs on Tuesday & Thursday nights from 5:15 & 6pm respectively.
We run 2 seasons a year. Each season has 1-2 casual volleyball rounds, which allow people to try the game, build skill and find or create teams for new individual players. Following this are a series of regular rounds with a round robin format for each division and 1-2 rounds of finals. The finals format varies depending on the number of teams.
Match format = Fast Fours The first match commences at 5:15pm (Tues) & 6:45pm (Thurs) and all matches finish by 9:00pm. Matches are 40 minutes + a 5 minute warm up. Each match consists of up to 4 sets. Each set is scored first 15 points (minimum margin of 2 points). Games are time capped to finish by the scheduled completion time. After winning 3 consecutive points on serve the server must rotate (for Divisions 2 & 3).
Teams are required to provide a referee and scorer for duty as per the season draw.
Representative Players: In 2021 Season 2 the A-Mixed competition will be replaced with a 'Representative' time slot, which will enable representative level players to hone skills and experience game play tailored to the needs of athletes considering representing Gladstone in state competitions. Athletes will have input into the content of this time slot.
