Who can play or sign up?

Volleyball is a great sport for people of all ages (High School age and over) and skill level. We welcome those who have never played before, those who want to play socially and those want to play at a competitive or representative level.

NOTE: Team registrations is limited by time slots available - Team registrations may close earlier than CLOSE date listed on Calendar page if all available team slots are full

Volleyball Queensland (VQ) membership 
GVA is an affiliate of VQ and hence all players must be registered with VQ. This membership provides players with insurance at all GVA events. Should any player receive an injury whilst playing in a GVA comp or event, they must report it to a member of the committee at the time of injury.

Membership costs

In 2022 the GVA membership and season fees were combined into a single payment for each season. This has been done to keep the fee structure simple and easy to understand. Payment must be made before round 1 commences.  

Representative Squad fees do not include competition fees, travel or accommodation. In recognition of the cost of travelling to state competitions - and consistent with GVA's Vision, Mission and Values to encourage participation and develop the sport - GVA applies a subsidy to competition fees for Thunder members when representing GVA at state-wide competitions.

Team Registration Social Comp:

​A team captain may nominate a team name and list of team members

​Note:

• Names and e-mail addresses of team members are required
• Team captain will nominate a preferred division
• The team captain may add additional team members until registrations close
• An automated e-mail will be sent to nominated team members inviting individual registration
• Number of team registrations for each season are capped​

Individual EOI Social Comp:

​An individual may register an Expression Of Interest (EOI) to be placed onto a team if/when available
Note:

• No fee is charged unless placed in a team
• GVA has allocated space in the draw for team(s) made up of individuals registering an EOI, but numbers are limited and places are not guaranteed
• Individuals are placed in available teams on a 1st come-1st served basis for available positions
• EOI's need to be submitted before registrations close
• Whilst every effort is made to place individuals in teams/divisions that match player ability and experience, no guarantees are made and places are limited by availability

Q: What if something goes wrong with the registration form?
A: The fastest way to resolve this is to send an e-mail to: [email protected] 
Our volunteer registrations team are pretty on the ball, especially around the start of each season. 

Q: Who can I speak to about registration questions?
A: You can send an e-mail to the GVA registrations (e-mail above) OR
send a note to GVA Messenger via our FaceBook page OR
​you can see one of the committee members (preferably the Player Rep - Registrations) at the hall during normal game times.

Q: What if I don't know who the registrations person or other committee members are?
A: Check out committee member photos here.

Q: What if I register a team and then someone pulls out and we now have less than 6 players?
A: You need to let the registrations team know as soon as you can! We can likely source some additional player(s) for your team so you can still play. You need a minimum of 6 fully registered players for your team before the season starts. 

Q: What if I register our team and then another friend wants to join?
A: No worries, the new member can complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) form and include your team name in the comments and we will manually add them to your team. It would also be good to send an e-mail to the registrations e-mail above or send us a note via Messenger to let us know so we can keep an eye out for it. 

Q: How old does my child need to be in order to play?
A: If your child is in High School or older you're welcome to sign up. Parent details are required on the registration form for anyone under 18 years.
